3rd Grade

Heather Evans & Cassie Higgins

This is an exciting year for math. Third grade students are learning three and four digit addition and subtraction, multiplication facts, times tables, measurements, fractions, and will be working with money. We are also undertaking Everyday Math. Everyday, we do mental math, math reflexes, a math message, explorations, and so on.

In Reading we have adopted the Daily 5 reading model and the CAFE menu to work on our reading skills. Daily 5 consists of Read to Self, Work on Writing, Read to Someone, Listen to Reading, and Word Work. The teacher meets with and confers with students to set and meet reading and writing goals. The CAFE menu organizes our reading strategies into Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency and Expanding our Vocabulary.

In third grade, science is all about learning the solar system and the Earth. We also learn about the water cycle and weather.

Social Studies

We have been studying economics, more about our government from the local to the federal levels. Martin Luther King Jr., maps, and Missouri are also subjects we talk about in Social Studies.
